Hello everyone, welcome back to My Take. This week I will
cover the NFL and what in two important games in this past week of play.
Seattle Seahawks vs. Carolina
Panthers
The Carolina Panthers made the cross-country trip to play
the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks won a Super Bowl two years ago and made to
the Super Bowl last year. Through this
two-year period, the Seahawks have been great when they play at home in front
of their fans. It was not the case this weekend. The Carolina Panthers beat the
Seattle Seahawks 27 to 23. So the recent Super Bowl Champs now have a record of
2 wins and 4 losses to begin the season. Many fans are shocked by this result
after their two years of dominance. I believe the Seahawks run is over. The
reason is, I believe they don’t have a good defensive coordinator in Kris
Richard. So far this season, he hasn’t demonstrated he can perform the job at
the same level as the coordinator before him, Dan Quinn, who is now the head coach
of the Atlanta Falcons. Dan Quinn did a fantastic job with the Seahawks
defense, which became known as the “Legion of Boom.” Last year under his
leadership, the defense only allowed 14.4 points per game. This year under Kris
Richards, the defense has allowed 20.8 points per game. They haven’t made any
major changes this off season personnel wise, so I believe the coordinator is
to blame. And nearly half way through the regular season, I believe it is too
late for the Seahawks to get their season back on track.
New England Patriots vs.
Indianapolis Colts
On Sunday Night Football, the New England Patriots traveled
to face the Indianapolis Colts. The Patriots won the game 34 to 27. But that
wasn’t the headline. The headline from the game was a play on 4th
down as the Colts were about to punt. They lined up in an unusual and illegal
formation with all but two of the players on one side of the field and two
other players lined up with the ball. It was supposed to be a trick play and
fake punt to sneak for the 1st down, but it didn’t fool anybody. The
Patriots swarmed them as soon as they snapped the ball. Before the game even
ended, it was being called one of the worst plays in the history of the NFL. The
Colts need a coaching change too – the head coach. This year their main goal
was set on beating only one team— the New England Patriots. Last year, they
fell to the Patriots in the playoffs in what is now known as the “deflate-gate
game”. So their sights were set on the Patriots this year. But this past Sunday
showed me they have a long way to go. It sounds bad to fire a coach who got his
team to the playoffs and is competitive with the rest of the league. But when
he blows a play like that during the most important game in the regular season,
it’s time to go in another direction. At the end of the day, the NFL is a
business where owners will do anything to win a championship.
